GM03 Stepping Down to Humility | The Godly Man Series

Long, Engaging Summary Humility is not weakness—it is the courageous act of seeing ourselves as God sees us. In Scripture, humility becomes the doorway through which God's power flows into the lives of His people. Paul’s story of the thorn reveals that God sometimes withholds relief not to punish us, but to preserve us. Instead of freeing Paul from difficulty, God gave him grace strong enough to stand within it. Paul discovered that his greatest moments of spiritual clarity and strength occurred not when he felt capable, but when he acknowledged his deep dependence on Christ.

Moses’ reflections in Psalm 90 offer another window into humility. He highlights the eternal greatness of God in contrast to the fragility and brevity of human life. These truths anchor humility in reality—God is eternal; we are fleeting. God is holy; we are sinful. God is strong; we are dust.

True humility is not merely outward gentleness or polite behavior. It is the deep inward recognition that we utterly depend on God for every breath, every moment, and every victory. As we follow Jesus—the One who humbled Himself all the way to the cross—we learn that humility is not the path downward but the path upward into God’s strength and blessing.
