Ecclesiastes 02:17–20 — Connecting Our Work to God’s Work

Ecclesiastes 02:17–20 — Connecting Our Work to God’s Work

Scriptural Focus: Genesis 3:16-18 • Ecclesiastes 2:17-20 • Philippians 2:16

Why does work so often feel frustrating, exhausting, or even meaningless? In this Bible teaching, Paul J. Bucknell connects Genesis 3:16-18 with Ecclesiastes 2:17-20 to show how sin brought toil, futility, and vanity into human labor. But the message does not end with despair. Philippians 2:16 calls believers to hold fast the word of life so that they do not run or toil in vain. This study helps Christians think carefully about what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. It contrasts life "under the sun" with an eternal perspective and calls believers to labor for God's glory rather than chasing the values of a passing world. Outline

A. Toiling to Live (Gen 3:16-18)

B. Vanity of Labor (Ecclesiastes 2:17-20)

C. Profits for Eternity (Philippians 2:16)
